Off Highway Van Lift ~3inch

The Off Highway Van lift kit for the Promaster van consists of lifitng the front end by about 2.75″ and the rear by approx 3″. Without going into great detail, essentially the lift uses strut spacers up front and rear brackets to lower tires away from the axle.

The lift has been used on many, many Promaster vans including the Solis. While expensive the lift gives crucial clearence under the van particularlily for the generator on the 59PX. The generator is the low point sitting about 6″ off the ground. After the lift it gets closer to 9″ off the ground. With the addition of yellow Sumo bump stops (with both spacers) the generator gets closer to 10″. Typically this is enough clearence that not much will hit the generator. Although many still add a Generator Skid Plate

From a driving perspective, the lift doesn’t seem to change things drastically. The general concensus is that the road feel is tighter and a little more in control. It is very hard to say precisely, because most of the time when the Solis has been lifted, larger tires and read Sumo Springs have been added. The larger tires make a more dramatic change to the driving, but still most say that the experience is sitll pleasant.

Some of the reported issues after the lift:

  • Vibrations in the steering wheel, mostly at certain speeds
    • Larger tires seem to cause a bit of this. The amount of vibration can be significnatly reduced with the following tactics:
      • Remounting/balancing the front tires
      • Verifying the tire pressure is the same on both sides
    • Getting a front end alignment redone
  • Pulling to left on hard acceleration
    • This happens in almost all two wheel drive vehicles and it is exagerated by the lift. Essenitaly the side of the car with the shorter drive shaft gets more torque initially and pulls the car in that direction.
    • Most drivers learn to compensate and adjust their acceleration style after a short amount of driving.
