Solis Propane System

Table of Contents

The 59P and 59PX both have identical propane systems. There is a 6 gallon/25lb propane tank located directly below the pedestal table under the vehicle.

The propane inlet or fill is on the passenger side, just at the rear end of the outside step. The inlet consists of three items, an inlet to hook up the propane fill, a pressure release valve and a propane on/off switch.

There is also an on/off switch inside the cabin in the control panel area above the jump seats. Both switches must be in the ON position for propane to flow. If either of them are off, the propane won’t work.

There are two propane devices in the Solis. The Suburban 2 burner cooktop and the Truma Combi Eco. Both of which historically have used very little propane. In the summer cooking regularly in the Solis you can go months without needing to refill. During winter, when the Truma is used, you will of course go through propane a bit faster.

The tank level indicator on the control panel is notoriously inaccurate. From what I have experienced and read online the 4 indicator lights mean the following:

  • 4/4 lights – 100% full
  • 3/4 lights – 75-95% full
  • 2/4 lights – 51-75% full
  • 1/4 lights – 50% or less full

Even if only one light shows, odds are you have plenty of propane for awhile. The first 4 or 5 times I filled the propane tank I could only put 2 gallons in and I thought it was empty.

Tips, Tricks and Mods #

  • There is an analogue gauge attached to the tank which is accurate. It can be seen if looking under from the passenger side
  • The propane has what I believe it a travel protection knob in the back middle of the tank. If closed or even somewhat closed it will prevent the tank from being filled completely
  • A few owners have added ports that allow the propane to be used for bbq grills or camp stoves outside the van.
