The Sumosprings Suspension upgrade is an in expensive way of increasing the ride quality significantly on the Promaster vans.

Front Suspension #

The front suspension upgrade consists of a pair of silicone spacers that slip into the coil springs and dampen the play in the suspension. This makes the ride both stiffer and last jarring at the same time. Going over a speedbump is less of a thud and more of a thump. The spacer only increase the ride high minimally.

Installation #

To install the front sumos, jack the front end up on both sides so that the coils “open up”. Lubricate the Sumos with soapy water and work them in between the coils. Once the entire Sumo is in the coils, zip tie the Sumos to the coil with the provided zip ties and that is it.

It is NOT recommended to have both the Sumos springs on the front AND the Off Highway Van Lift ~3inch there have been a few people who have had both and typically they end up removing the Sumos due to steering issues.

Rear Suspension #

The rear Sumos are well regarded as the biggest bang for the buck as far as improving the overall ride of the van. The Sumos replace very short bump stops with longer silicone bumps that are touching the axel all the time. This provides a little bit of lift and decreases van sway around corners. Again speeds bumps go from a thud to a thump. The van drives better and it is a bit less stress on the driver.

Installation #

Installing the rear Sumos requires the back end of the vehicle to be jacked up to releive tension on the suspension. The current bump stops are removed (this is usually the hardest part). After a little loctite on the threads, the new Sumos screw right into the same location as the old. They just need to be hand tightened.

The Sumos come with 2 spacers per side. Some people use one, while many use two. It is purely personal preference. Two spaces are more likely to give a slight ride height increase.
